The Cable Show 2010 - Go Beyond

Emcee and Judges

Battle of the Bands 2010 judging consisted of two components: a panel of celebrity judges weighing in with opinions (and wit) and audience members armed with mobile phones voting for their favorite bands. Along the way, Christopher Reid kept things rocking all night long as our emcee.

Meet The Emcee: Christopher Reid

Battling bands, a panel of celebrity judges and a crowd that's ready to rock. It takes a special master of ceremonies to keep it all running smoothly - and we just happen to have one. So say "hello" to Christopher Reid.  Formerly known as "Kid" from the hip-hop group Kid 'n Play, he's back on the entertainment scene as an actor and stand-up comedian with a hip-hop pedigree. Currently the host of TV One's "Way Black When" Black Music Month concert specials in June, Christopher has also served as the host of contest shows such as "Your Big Break" and "It's Showtime at the Apollo".  And considering he appeared in all three House Party movies in the 1990s, we know he knows a few things about how to keep the party going all night long.

May The Best Power Chords Win

Determining which of eight great bands qualifies as cable’s best is no easy task. So we’ve assembled a high-powered cast of celebrity musicologists to do the heavy lifting. Introducing The Cable Show 2010 "Battle of the Bands" judges:

Kim Coles: As host of BET's pop-culture game show, "Pay It Off," and co-host their upcoming show, "My Black is Beautiful," Kim is used to evaluating talent - and commanding the stage. Perhaps best known as "Synclaire" from FOX's "Living Single," she continued in primetime with "Frasier," "The Geena Davis Show," "One on One," and "10 Items or Less," among others. For Battle of the Bands, she's ready to live it up as a celebrity judge with a knack for spotting talent - and telling you exactly what she thinks.

Bob Guiney: Who better to weigh in on cable's best bands than a guy who bridges the worlds of cable television and rock 'n roll? When he's not hosting TLC's "Date My House" or "GSN Live" on GSN, he's performing as the lead vocalist for celebrity group Band From TV or recording new material with the Bob Guiney Band. When he's out of the recording studio, he's appearing on Bravo, E!, WE and VH1. Bob rose to national prominence as the object du affection on the fourth season of ABC's "The Bachelor," and has stayed there ever since. How he's finding the time for "Battle of The Bands," we have no idea. But we're glad he has.

Allison Hagendorf: "Plugged in" only begins to describe this music industry veteran who is a host on "Fuse Top 20 Countdown," a new two-hour countdown show that includes interviews with celebrity guests, a recap of the week's biggest moments in music and the most popular music videos of the week. Allison worked as an A&R executive at SonyBMG for both Columbia and Epic Records for eight years, and currently serves as a host for "Steve Madden Music," as well as a voiceover artist (she's the voice of Oxygen TV). Amazingly to us, she's making time to join our celebrity judging panel. Note to bands: don't disappoint her.

Here's how the judging worked

  • A panel of celebrity judges carried 50% of the vote - the other 50% came through audience polling.
  • Audience voting was limited to 10 votes
  • The band with the highest combined scores won the competition.
