Robert Thompson

Rob Thompson is a Principal Staff Engineer, Motorola Mobile Devices and Home. He is currently responsible for supporting DOCSIS-based product development and deployment. Additionally, Rob has assisted in HFC network characterizations that have helped many cable system operators assess deployment of more advanced DOCSIS signaling and features. Rob is currently a contributing engineer for CableLabs.

Thompson began his Systems Engineering career at Motorola in October of 2000. Prior to his current position, Thompson worked as a researcher, investigating and developing technological solutions to various HFC impairments, thus helping cable operators to successfully deliver advanced video, voice, and data services.

Thompson has been recognized by Motorola for Motorola’s Significant Participation Award in 2005, 2006, and 2008 for his participation in CableLabs’ Modular CMTS and DOCSIS 3.0 Standards development. He has also coauthored 12 patent applications for various systems which enhance HFC network performance for DOCSIS services.

Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Drexel University. He also holds two Masters of Science Degrees from Drexel; one in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering and the other in Engineering Management.
