Kevin Murray

Kevin is a System Architect at NDS in Concepts and Collaboration, a group within the New Initiatives team. The role of the group is the exploration of a wide range of technologies and developments that will affect many aspects of TV and the entertainment business, as well as collaborating with other companies and organisations to promote these changes. Since joining NDS at the start of 1997, Kevin’s work has included contributing to the development of HD encoders, new coding techniques, home networking technologies, advanced DVRs and IP delivery of TV as well as a range of aspects of 3DTV. Externally, he has been involved with several standards bodies, most notably DVB. He is currently chairing the DVB technical group on File Formats.

Prior to joining NDS, Kevin was a lecturer in Computer Science at City University in London where he specialised in distributed and parallel systems, networking and computer architectures and was an undergraduate course director.

Kevin received his 1st class BSc from the University of Warwick, and his doctorate in parallel operating systems from the University of York. At York, went on to hold a two year research fellowship from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851.

Despite living on the edge of the New Forest, Kevin is originally from Scotland. He regularly returns there, notably during the Edinburgh Festival, but always making a point to visit the highland scenery. He just wishes his photographic skills were as good as the quality of the landscapes he encounters!
